Robotics in Yerevan’s Public Kindergartens: From a Pilot Initiative to a Large-Scale Educational Program

In 2024, at the initiative of the Yerevan Municipality and in cooperation with the National Polytechnic University of Armenia, the “Robotics” program was launched in Yerevan’s public kindergartens. It became the first large-scale project to introduce robotics and modern educational technologies in Armenia’s public preschool institutions.

What began as a pilot initiative in 10 kindergartens developed into a large-scale educational program within three years. In 2025, the program expanded to 40 kindergartens, and by 2026, it reached 70. Today, the program brings together 70 public kindergartens in Yerevan, 9800 children, and over 70 educators.

A Comprehensive Approach to Implementing Robotics

CET serves as the program’s implementation partner, providing a comprehensive approach to integrating modern educational technologies into the preschool learning environment.

The work includes the supply and technical preparation of LEGO Education SPIKE Essential sets, educator training, methodological materials and lesson plans, ongoing consultation and support for educators, program implementation monitoring, and the development of a sustainable model for future growth.

This approach makes it possible not only to introduce new educational equipment but also to integrate robotics, learning through play, and modern pedagogical approaches into the everyday educational process.

Professional Development for Educators

One of the program’s key areas is the professional development of educators.

More than 70 educators have completed comprehensive training based on the international LEGO Education methodology. The training program included the LEGO Education methodology, the Learning Through Play approach, the 5E Model, 4C skills, and hands-on work with educational solutions.

The results of the final survey also demonstrate the program’s impact on educators’ professional practice: 95% reported increased confidence in conducting lessons, 90% began using learning through play more frequently, and 88% introduced elements of project-based activities into their work.

9800 Children Have Gained Access to Modern Technology Education

The core value of the program lies in the new educational opportunities it creates for children.

Today, 9800 children in Yerevan’s public kindergartens have access to modern technology education. Through hands-on activities and learning through play, children are introduced to technology and robotics while learning to explore, create, find solutions, and collaborate with one another.

The program demonstrates that exposure to modern technologies can begin as early as preschool age and become a natural part of the kindergarten learning environment.

The program involves not only children and educators

More than 15,000 parents become indirect participants in the educational process as children continue discussing their projects and achievements at home and sharing their experiences with their families.

In this way, the program’s impact extends through the entire chain: kindergarten — child — family.

New Opportunities for Public Kindergartens

For 70 public kindergartens, participation in the program provides an opportunity to introduce international educational methodologies, strengthen educators’ professional capacity, create a modern learning environment, foster a culture of innovation, and expand opportunities for hands-on and technology-based learning.

Over three years, the program has grown from a pilot initiative into a large-scale educational ecosystem.

70 public kindergartens. 9800 children. Over 70 trained educators.

Behind these numbers is systematic work aimed at developing a modern preschool educational environment and creating new learning opportunities for children from an early age.
